Our 2023-2024 Season

“Spooktacular” opens with a look back to the classic 1935 Boris Karloff “Frankenstein” sequel, “The Bride of Frankenstein”. The musical score was written by the highly acclaimed classically trained film score composer Franz Waxman.  The program also features musical scores and video from “Godzilla”, the iconic giant reptile; “King Kong”, the fierce, yet surprisingly tender-hearted gorilla monster; the award-winning Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Phantom of the Opera”; “The Gremlins”; “Beetlejuice”; “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”; “Casper”; “Back to the Future”; and “Batman”.

The Arizona Winds will delight the audience with a Christmas season spectacular filled with musical surprises and popular audience favorites to include, among others, “Christmas on Broadway”, “Away in a Manger”, “A Most Wonderful Christmas”, “The Polar Express”, and the powerful and moving “Russian Christmas Music”.  This is a great way to get your whole family in the Christmas mood.  John Sipple, the talented ‘Voice of the Arizona Winds’, will be featured in a special arrangement of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. 

A great way to spend a romantic afternoon with your favorite Valentine is coming your way on Sunday, February 18th when the Arizona Winds takes the stage to present an afternoon of love songs and special Valentine entertainment in a concert titled “Romeos & Juliets”.  The concert will feature two very talented local vocalists, Barry Dale and Anna Nyhart, and the ever-popular trumpeter extraordinaire, Dan Reed.  Barry and Anna will share the stage singing a medley of award-winning tunes by legendary composer Burt Bacharach including “Close to You”; “What the World Needs Now”; “Promises, Promises”; “The Look of Love”; “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head” and many more. They will also sing a medley of Cole Porter tunes to include “Easy to Love”; “Anything Goes”; “What’s This Thing Called Love”; “Night and Day”; “Let’s Fall in Love”; and “So Easy to Love”.  Dan Reed will light up the stage with his fiery trumpeting style in a tribute to the late, great Harry James, and other exciting jazz standards.

 

 

 

  

 

Continuing its tradition of bringing great movie scores to life on stage, the Arizona Winds will present seven movie classics accompanied by film clips from the movies.  Following a “Magic of the Movies” overture and cartoon medley, the band dives right into music from “Titanic”, “Silverado”, “Pearl Harbor”, “Superman”, “Avatar”, “Cutthroat Island”, and “Forest Gump”.

Wrapping up the season, the Arizona Winds will explore some rousing traditional folk-dance music from around the world to include America, Mexico, Canada, Scotland, England, Arabia, Armenia and Russia.  Buckle up for a fast-paced romp around the world in 90 minutes!
